Pyoderma gangrenosum (pie-o-DUR-muh gang-ruh-NO-sum) is usually a result of an autoimmune disorder and is successfully treated at Encompass HealthCare and Wound Medicine in West Bloomfield, Michigan. We treat and cure pyoderma gangrenosum in our outpatient office so that you don’t have to go to the hospital.
It is a condition that is often misdiagnosed and is a rare condition that causes large, painful sores (ulcers) to develop on your skin, most often on your legs. It is a condition that causes tissues to become necrotic, causing deep ulcers that can lead to chronic wounds. The ulcers usually initially look like small bug bites or papules and they progress to larger ulcers.
No one knows exactly what causes pyoderma gangrenosum, but it appears to be a disorder of the immune system. People who have certain underlying conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease or rheumatoid arthritis, are at higher risk of pyoderma gangrenosum.
When the 5 reasons wounds don’t heal are excluded and/or treated and the wound persists, Pyoderma Gangrenosum could be the reason your painful wound isn’t healing.
