Newly engaged Prince Harry & Meghan Markle request charity donations instead of wedding gifts. In fact the Royal couple chose seven charities which “represent a range of issues that they are passionate about,” the Palace said in a statement, including women’s empowerment, HIV, homelessness and the environment.

Amanda Williams, chair of the Children’s HIV Association (CHIVA), which supports children with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) across the UK and Ireland, said she was “delighted and honoured” that CHIVA had been chosen by the royal couple. HIV is the infectious, viral agent that causes the infection A.I.D.S. (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.) HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that leads to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS, spread primarily by unprotected sex, contaminated blood transfusions, hypodermic needles, and from mother to child during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding.

HIV & AIDS

No cure exists for AIDS, but strict adherence to anti-retroviral therapy (ART) medications can dramatically slow the disease’s progress, prevent secondary infections and complications, and prolong life. Prince Harry & Meghan Markle are asking for wedding donations to charity including charity to an HIV organization. HIV is the virus that leads to AIDS, according to expert infectious disease Dr. Bruce Ruben of Encompass HealthCare & Wound Medicine, West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Donating to charity is something with which Dr. Bruce Ruben is quite familiar: as an integral part of the Detroit Chesed Project in the Southfield, Michigan community, Dr. Ruben has donated his time and resources to help others who otherwise could not afford medical services ranging from outpatient I.V. antibiotics, wound care, pressure ulcer and bed sore care, venous ablation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, wound debridement, offloading, nutritional support, compression wrapping, skin substitutes, and acupuncture.

Dr. Ruben also believes that donating to charity is an act that requires an open heart, an open mind and the ability to give of oneself in a way that elevates spiritual growth.

The fact that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have chosen to donate to charity is a “wonderful idea,” says Dr. Bruce Ruben of Encompass HealthCare and Wound Medicine located in West Bloomfield, Michigan, a suburb of the Detroit area. Encompass HealthCare & Wound Medicine is located in Oakland County.
