Protein Supplements Provide Additional Nutrition To Help Heal Wounds.
It is imperative that wound care patients consume more protein to heal their wounds. When these patients can’t take in enough through the natural foods they eat, concentrated supplements can help accelerate the healing process.
Why is protein important in wound healing? It is important to understand that proteins are the building blocks for your body while carbohydrates and fats are primarily used for energy. Think of it like this: the protein is the framing structure, just like wood is the framing structure for a house. Your body is supported by the underlying wood framing, (i.e. the protein.) A diet with too many carbs and fats and not enough protein is like a house with really fancy bricks overlaying a straw foundation. And if that foundation isn’t structurally sound, the house, in this case, your body, will not function properly and no amount of wound care treatment will heal your wound until your body is properly balanced for your condition. A very good read to explain all of this can be found here, authored by Dr. Bruce Ruben himself.
