Hardware infections can occur from prosthesis in the knee, hip, back, breast, joint and just about anywhere in the body.
Hardware infections due to artificial body parts can become infected and when they do, they can be extremely difficult to eradicate. In many instances, a round of I.V. antibiotics may be administered. If the hardware infection still persists, it is sometimes necessary to remove the hardware, administer another round of antibiotics, and then replace the hardware with a completely new prosthesis.
We see many of these types of infections ranging from patients who have had knee replacements, hip replacements, breast augmentation, I.U.D.s, and more.
