Medical Director of Encompass HealthCare and Wound Medicine

Encompass HealthCare’s Medical Director Bruce E. Ruben, M.D.

Bruce Ruben, M.D. is a different type of doctor. He is a triple-board-certified physician who administers and oversees your entire treatment plan from diagnosis to fully healed. Dr. Ruben has over 25 years of experience in infectious disease and advanced wound care. His knowledge and experience is beyond extensive, he is a published author on everything “wound and infection” care, and he is a compassionate, caring person. His caring demeanor is exemplified by his core staff who have been with him for all or most of 25 years. This, indeed is different.

Our Outpatient Setting

At Encompass, our unique outpatient setting is what makes us different. We offer the same medicine as in a hospital without all of the hospital hassles and “red tape” usually associated with hospitals. At Encompass HealthCare and Wound Medicine, Dr. Bruce Ruben’s dream was to build an outpatient, patient-focused practice that combined all types of infection care and wound care under one roof, delivering complete and comprehensive wound treatments for our patients. Our center has everything from traditional western medicine to even chinese medicine in order to heal our patients. No one treatment plan is alike and our patients benefit from the experience of our Medical Director Bruce E. Ruben: he is a wound expert unlike no other and our patient healing success rate is 99%.

Barrier-Free Design
While our free-standing design is unique, what’s inside is really what sets us apart. Our office design is barrier-free for all who come: ambulatory, disabled, paraplegics and quadriplegics. Our patients enjoy regular and handicapped parking right outside our first-floor entry suite (without stairs or elevators,) automatic doors, 48 inch high walls, three foot high coat hooks (for our paraplegics and quadriplegics,) 5′ wide hallways, reinforced bathroom safety bars and handles, a lift system large, comfortable chairs in our friendly, warm I.V. room, snacks, beverages, protein smoothies and more. We thought out every detail in order to make our office as comfortable and friendly as possible for our patients. We know this is different for every one of our patients because they tell us so.

Hospital-Level Equipment (without the hospital!)

Just like in a hospital, we have lift systems that make it easy to move our paraplegic and quadriplegic patients.

Just like in a hospital, we have lift systems that make it easy to move our paraplegic and quadriplegic patients.

Hospital-level equipment like our lift system makes getting on and off the gurney easy and dignified for our patients. This is different. Our in-house pharmacy ensures timely and convenient delivery of medicine and it means you can begin your treatment on your first visit without having to travel anywhere for a prescription. Our high-level technology allows our patients to get most diagnostics completed all under one roof; equipment like our hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, the indirect calorimeter, our seated scale, the venous ablation room, the lymphedema whirlpool, our treatment areas, and our I.V. antibiotic room are some of these examples. These are in place to ensure the MOST comprehensive and most comfortable visit for you. And, as an added bonus, our special therapy pets Pocket and Inky are loving “wounddogs” who comfort and soothe our patients.

Open 7 Days A Week
We are open 7 days a week for infusion therapies and are always accessible via email, our website contact form or via phone call.

The Drake House is Different
We’ve also added The Drake House, an adult foster care home for those who need a place to stay. Qualified out-of-town or extremely impaired patients can stay at our well-equipped, medically supervised Encompass Home located near our office. We can get you in and healing within 24 hours and usually on the same day you call.

Friendly Staff–Very Different

Our friendly staff is something else that sets us apart. Simply walk in and be greeted by a friendly face or ask Julia to make your favorite protein smoothie. Coffee and tea are yours to have any way you like it with cream, sugar, splenda and more.

The Encompass experience makes painful experiences painless: get your treatment and then go back home…or go back to work. Encompass lets you go right back to your life.

Our Wounddogs:

OUR PATIENTS LOVE OUR WOUNDDOGS!

ENCOMPASS HEALTHCARE AND WOUND MEDICINE IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL MEDICAL OFFICE. TO BE SURE, WE HAVE INCLUDED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING TO ENSURE THE BEST PATIENT EXPERIENCE, INCLUDING OUR LOVING, GENTLE WELL-TRAINED WOUNDDOGS.

Pocket and Inky

Pocket is one of our wounddogs and he is as well-behaved as he is cute!

Pocket is one of our wounddogs and he is as well-behaved as he is cute!

Pocket is a Cockalier (part King Cavalier, part Cocker Spaniel) and Inky is an unusual breed called a Blue Picardy. A Blue Picardy is like a water spaniel or a golden retriever in demeanor with an added dose of obedience and gentleness.

Our dogs love our patients and our patients love our dogs. Pocket and Inky have both had extensive training in obedience and provide a therapeutic effect for our patients.

Inky is gentle, sweet, and loving. Our Encompass HealthCare patients love her.

We all know that when we are not feeling well, our anxiety heightens. Pocket and Inky provide an unusual love and comfort that our patients report to enhance their experience here at Encompass HealthCare and Wound Medicine. In fact, some patients love our dogs so much that they want to take them home with them!
